Becoming
“Becoming” is a visual meditation on transformation, identity, and the sacred evolution of the feminine self. The painting captures the moment when the inner essence of a woman merges with the forces of nature — a symbolic rebirth into her true, untamed form.

The naked mustard-toned body represents vulnerability and authenticity — stripped of societal layers, expectations, and constructs. Her exposed form is not one of weakness but of freedom; it is the moment the soul decides to live as it was always meant to — raw, radiant, and whole.

Behind her rise two lush green banana leaves, vibrant and life-filled, echoing the themes of growth, grounding, and abundance. They act almost like wings, framing her body and signifying renewal, nourishment, and connection to the earth. Their presence suggests that nature is not behind her but with her — a living extension of her spirit.

On her back, the large orange butterfly symbolizes transformation — the divine metamorphosis of the self. The butterfly’s placement on her back is significant: it emerges from the space between vulnerability and strength, from the very body that has endured, carried, and now ascends. The fiery orange hue radiates vitality, passion, and creative awakening — a reminder that transformation is not always soft; it is powerful, radiant, and alive with purpose.

Her golden and black afro crowns her like a halo of duality — both shadow and light, past and present, heritage and divinity intertwined. It represents rootedness in identity, a balance between power and grace, ancestry and individuality. The afro becomes a solar aura, a manifestation of her inner sun — luminous and eternal.

Altogether, “Becoming” tells the story of emergence — the shedding of what was to embody what is. It speaks to the alchemy of transformation: how a woman unfolds into her fullest expression through the blending of nature, spirit, and self-acceptance.
